Sound On: Your Brand Might Already Have the Perfect Audio

The sizzle when something hits the grill. The sound of a fresh bag being opened. The steady rhythm of equipment doing its job.

When we’re filming content, those sounds are part of what we’re there to capture.

It’s easy to jump straight to choosing music for a Reel. But sometimes, the sound that belongs with the video is already in the footage. Original audio gives people a chance to hear what’s happening and spend a few seconds somewhere they don’t usually get to go.

A Little Behind-the-Scenes Moment for NC Potatoes

We captured potatoes getting washed before moving on to sorting, bagging, and shipment. We kept the original sounds of the process in the video, giving viewers a closer look and listen at a part of the harvest they might never have seen.

The post performed really well for NC Potatoes, and it’s a great example of why we make room for this kind of content.

There was something satisfying about watching the process unfold with its own soundtrack. It gave an everyday step on the farm a moment of its own and introduced viewers to some of the work behind the potatoes they bring home.

For the people doing that work, it may have been a familiar scene. For the audience, it was something worth stopping to watch.

We Listen While We Film

A content shoot involves plenty of visual decisions: lighting, framing, movement, and what needs to be in the shot. We’re also paying attention to what’s happening around the camera.

Does the sound help explain the process? Is there a satisfying moment worth capturing up close? Would music cover up something interesting?

That could be the crunch of a freshly baked bagel, the pour of a drink, or the sound of a product being made. Each gives us another way to show people what makes a brand interesting.

Recognizing those opportunities is part of the creative work. We want to come back from a shoot with footage that gives us choices, including moments strong enough to use with their original sound.

Everyday Work Can Make Interesting Content

When you do something every day, you can stop noticing it.

You know what happens before the doors open. You’ve watched the same preparation process hundreds of times. You know exactly how much work goes into the finished product.

Your audience may be seeing it for the first time.

Our job is to bring that outside perspective. We look for the steps, textures, sounds, and small details that help someone understand more about what you do.

The NC Potatoes video is a good example. Washing potatoes was already part of the day’s work. Capturing it thoughtfully gave us a way to share that work with a wider audience.

The Edit Gives the Moment Its Shape

Keeping original audio still takes editing.

We consider where the video should begin, how long to stay with a shot, and what context viewers need. A short text overlay might explain what they’re watching. The caption can connect that moment to the bigger story.

We also decide when original audio suits the footage and when another approach would serve it better. Some videos benefit from a voiceover, an interview, or music. Those decisions come from the content itself and what we want it to communicate.

For NC Potatoes, the process and its natural sounds gave us something worth building around.
